How to Choose Snow Removal Equipment Before Winter

From November on, northern regions move into snow clearing and road-opening season. For highway authorities, municipal departments and park operators, equipment selection often starts from the wrong question. They ask whether a vehicle can push snow, but not whether it matches the job. A highway needs high-speed clearing and continuous operation. A residential street needs agility, so it can work around parked cars and roadside facilities without damaging them. Choose the wrong machine and you spend the whole winter paying for it in efficiency. Around two core scenarios - mainline clearing and branch-line sweeping - Huangshan Zhongguangtai offers a large snow removal truck and a pickup snow removal vehicle, covering the full chain from expressways to neighborhood streets.

1. Start With the Scenario: Highway Clearing and Street Clearing Are Two Different Jobs

The two jobs demand different equipment logic. Expressways and urban express roads need speed. If the working speed drops, snow gets compacted into ice and becomes far harder to handle. City streets, non-motorized lanes, squares and parking lots need precision. The roads are narrow, obstacles are everywhere, and anti-icing still has to be covered. So the first step in selection is not comparing specifications. It is defining the area you are responsible for, then deciding between large and small, and between mechanical clearing alone or a mechanical plus de-icer combination.

2. Large Snow Removal Truck: Five Working Attachments on One Chassis

The Huangshan Zhongguangtai large snow removal truck is built on a Sinotruk Sitrak chassis: China VI emission standard, 310 hp, 4x2 drive, 5200 mm wheelbase, overall dimensions 10105 x 2550 x 3215 mm, with a full-power PTO that delivers enough power for every attachment. The heart of the vehicle is its modular working system, which can be configured front and rear according to snow conditions:

• Front snow plow: blade 3500 x 1500 x 980 mm, hydraulic turning angle of plus or minus 30 degrees, NM400 high-strength wear-resistant steel blade, three-section independent obstacle avoidance that lifts 150 mm and returns automatically, with avoidance force precisely adjustable to road conditions - protecting both clearing quality and roadside facilities

• Mid-mounted rotary ice breaker: 2500 mm working width, able to break a 200 mm compacted snow and ice layer, mechanical gear drive, built for the hardest job of all - snow that has been crushed into ice

• Mid-mounted scraper: 2900 mm long, NM400 blade, floating mode plus forced down-pressure to clear the surface without leaving an ice film

• Rear high-speed rotary brush: 2900 mm brush length, 670 mm diameter, 230 mm bristles, 300 rpm, driven by two hydraulic motors with 27-degree side swing, clearing 200 mm of snow at working speeds up to 60 km/h - the key figure for fast mainline clearing

• Rear snow blower: 600 mm impeller diameter and 24 m/s air speed to blow snow and slush off the pavement, ideal for positions the brush cannot reach, such as the inside of guardrails and areas around road markings

An optional 10 m3 liquid tank and spreading system can be fitted at the rear: pump flow of 60 m3/h with 90 m head, and a liquid de-icer spreading width of 3 m. A front electric water cannon has 80 m head, and front watering covers a width of 20 m. The whole system uses integrated electric, hydraulic and pneumatic control. An intelligent terminal in the cab monitors working parameters in real time and automatically matches vehicle speed to de-icer application rate, so the operator can stay focused on driving.

3. Pickup Snow Removal Vehicle: The Agile Workhorse for Streets and Communities

The pain point in urban clearing is that large trucks cannot get in, while small machines cannot get the job done. The Huangshan Zhongguangtai pickup snow removal vehicle is built on a 4WD Foton pickup chassis (China 6B emission standard) with a ZF 8AT automatic transmission. Overall dimensions are 5840 x 1940 x 1915 mm, maximum gross vehicle weight is 2905 kg, maximum gradeability is 29 percent or more, and it works in temperatures down to minus 45 degrees C. It is designed for snow clearing, snow melting and ice breaking on city roads, streets and internal roads in industrial parks and communities.

The configuration logic is equally clear. The front plow and the rotary brush can be swapped quickly. For thick snow, the brush sweeps it straight to the roadside. For ice and compacted snow, the plow pushes through. The plow blade uses NM400 wear-resistant steel, and the bristles combine plastic filaments with corrugated steel wire, balancing cleaning performance against service life. At the rear, an auger-type de-icer spreader with stepless adjustment distributes material evenly, forming a single process from clearing at the front to anti-icing at the back. All attachments are controlled electronically with one-button operation from the cab. In the non-snow season, removing the attachments leaves a standard pickup that can still haul cargo, so equipment idle time drops to zero.

4. Big and Small Together: One Fleet for the Whole City

For prefecture-level and district-level buyers, the more economical approach is to pair the two. The large snow removal truck handles overnight rapid clearing on expressways, ring roads and main urban arteries. The pickup snow removal vehicle moves in after dawn to do fine cleaning and additional de-icer spreading in streets, residential compounds, and around schools and hospitals. Both vehicles work under a single dispatch plan, so mainline and branch-line clearing never leave a gap.

The more valuable calculation is annual utilization. In the non-snow season, the large truck can be quickly converted into a water sprinkler or a guardrail washing vehicle for green-area irrigation and road washing. The pickup returns to cargo duty. Snow removal equipment no longer sits idle for eleven months of the year. It becomes municipal equipment that earns its keep all year round.

5. Three Things to Check Before You Buy

First, look at how power is taken from the chassis. Only a full-power PTO can drive several attachments at the same time, which avoids the situation where the plow works but the brush does not. Second, look at blade and bristle material. NM400-grade wear-resistant steel and mixed bristles directly determine your consumable costs for the season. Third, look at how smart the controls are. Models that automatically link vehicle speed to application rate achieve far higher real working efficiency than manual adjustment. Both Zhongguangtai snow removal vehicles are listed in the Road Motor Vehicle Manufacturing Enterprises and Products Announcement of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, so they can be registered and licensed normally, and configurations can be customized to specific working scenarios.

The procurement window for winter equipment is right now. With its mainline plus branch-line package, Huangshan Zhongguangtai helps highway and municipal operators turn falling snow into clear roads by the time it stops.
